Does steel expand and contract?

Like all building materials, steel expands and contracts slightly with changes in temperature. However, unlike wood, steel does not absorb or release moisture, so it will not shrink, swell, warp, twist, or crack over time due to humidity. This dimensional stability helps keep walls straight, finishes looking better, and reduces movement throughout the life of the home.
